Notes

Installation guidance

  • Posts come with a point as standard. When driven into ground that compresses the surrounding earth, they don't need concreting.
  • Golden rule: 1/3 buried, 2/3 exposed (minimum 50 cm / ~19.7" in the ground).
  • Posts can take brackets and/or insulators for electric, tape, or mesh fencing.
  • Post spacing guidance: Post & wire fence 3–3.6 m (~10–12 ft) centres; Electric wire fence 6–15 m centres.
  • Posts installed by mechanical post drivers are more secure than by hand.
  • If concreting in, no gravel bed needed — hanit® posts are 100% rot-free.

Suggested FAQ content

  • Is recycled plastic more expensive than wood? Wood is cheaper to buy but needs maintenance and has a shorter lifespan. Recycled plastic is virtually maintenance-free, comes with a 20-year warranty, and lasts well beyond that.
  • Does recycled plastic warp in the sun? It can, but only if badly installed.
  • Does it get too hot to touch? Slightly warmer than wood, but not as hot as concrete, sand, or steel.
  • Is it fireproof? No — similar ignition point to wood.
  • What colors are available? Brown is popular as it looks like wood; grey is also available.
  • Do posts need to be closer together? No — hanit® can be reinforced to cope with spacing up to 2.5 m if required.
  • If a horse chews the post, is it toxic? Horses don't usually chew it (they dislike the taste), and even if they do, it's non-toxic.
  • Does it get slippery? Tested and classed as non-slip.
  • Is mould or algae a problem? No — non-absorbent and resistant to mould/algae.
